Here's a film that Ian made of Otis and Bub L. Breezer. They have a special relationship as you can see. It makes me cry.

I guess I always figured that pointing was something you had to teach a pointer. Not so. They come with it hardwired into their bird brains. Most of the time I'm walking Otis around the block he's pointing- birds, cats, pigeons, a plastic bag scuffing down the street, a homeless man lurking in a doorway. As he creeps up on the pigeons ever so slyly his muscles ripple and bulge and his whole body shakes with excitement. One day he was doing this down by Pike Place Market and some young Japanese tourists took pictures, giggling. A few days later he was pointing a squirrel in the park and a cop sitting in his cruiser drinking coffee called out, "He's got a nice point on 'im, that one!"
Run away fast and let me bite your tasty little poofball pompom as you squeal in poodlish delight!
Here's a shot from more than 5 months ago, on the second day I had Otis. Already he was admiring his superiour physique in the mirror, an object that surely must have been sorely lacking in his prison days.
There's a rock at the dog park under which something enticing lives. One day Otis spent and hour and a half hunting it.

Ian's parents visited us a couple months ago from Hawaii. Otis liked them. Perhaps because they brought many pineapples and tropical smells with them, which he enjoys. He showed them the wild muddy ways of the urban dog park and his hound dog chillin skills. Ian's dad joked about eating Otis but fortunately spared him as I guess the black dogs are the tastiest. Lucky Otis!
When I was first teaching Otis 'down' he hated me a lot. He did NOT want to lie down. We fought about it a bit. Sometimes he would throw his head back and just glare at me with me this face, a face that only says one thing- "FUCK YOU lady!"
I bought Otis this dumb raincoat at Old Navy. Embarassing, yes. He didn't seem to mind it though and gol darnit he sure needed it what with our stereotypical Seattle winter and all. Ugghh.
This was on the drive back to Seattle from Tacoma after we picked up Otis from the pound, 5 whole months ago!
